American Social Media Influencer Penalized Following Mass E-Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge

NSW authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of e-bike riders converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people riding e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The riders subsequently reversed direction and rode through the downtown area and a nearby district.

"This had a risk of serious injury or fatalities," remarked a senior police official the officer on Wednesday.

Police indicated they did not chase right away the group due to safety concerns but instead located the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the city gardens, where they dispersed.

Penalties Issued for Content Creator

Later in the week, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer known as Sur Ronster, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for careless operation (with no death or previous bodily harm), carrying a penalty of over five hundred dollars and penalty points per notice, in relation to the bridge incident. Officials noted that the investigation is ongoing.

The influencer reportedly has more than 3.4 million subscribers on one platform and over 1.2m on Instagram.

Creator's Response

The online figure gave comments to a major newspaper this week following the event gained traction on digital platforms, saying he was sorry for giving "bike life" a bad reputation.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. It was one of the safest ride-outs I’ve ever seen," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to come here respecting the rules and standards of the city. When I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to greet people under the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we found ourselves on the bridge and I had two choices: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, an illegal act. Or we turn around, basically, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

National Debate on E-Bike Regulation

The increase of e-bikes on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for stricter rules. A senior government official, Mark Butler, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes since the invention of the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are presenting at our ERs are absolutely devastating," the minister stated. "We must ensure we stop these things entering the country [and] officers are given the powers to take strong action, to take them away, to crush them, to destroy them."

The state recorded 226 injuries associated with ebikes in 2024. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that figure surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
