“We are in a period of mourning,” stated Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who added that efforts had been made to remove the three siblings in the previous occasions.

Property Situation

The leader of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, said the property was subject to an court order due to financial obligations incurred by the three owners.

Mediators had been dispatched to speak to the siblings who had secured themselves into the home. When the officers arrived soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials think one of the siblings caused the blast.

“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” local police chief Commander Papagno informed the media.

“A gas cylinder had been set off, and the blast directly hit our personnel,” he added.

Incendiary devices were also discovered at the residence, the minister said.

Casualties and Damage

Injured individuals by the blast included an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as three members of national police and a fire services member.

According to the local prosecutor, the building was in a dilapidated shape and had was without power.

The official was convinced the explosion had occurred on a floor above the doorway and informed the press it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Just prior to the explosion, he mentioned personnel had “detected a whistling noise, probably the gas canisters being turned on”.

Community Reaction

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” neighbors stated to Italian media, adding that the trio had earlier warned to “detonate the property” rather than leave the house.

“The blast resulted in a ‘horrific, deeply distressing and tragic cost’.”
