US President Trump has stated he is increasing tariffs on goods brought in from Canadian sources after the region of the Ontario government aired an anti-tariff ad using ex-President Ronald Reagan.

In a Truth Social update on the weekend, the President labeled the advertisement a "fraud" and criticized Canadian leaders for not taking down it prior to the MLB finals.

"Because of their significant distortion of the truth, and aggressive move, I am raising the import tax on Canadian goods by 10% over and above what they are paying now," Trump posted.

Subsequent to Donald Trump on last Thursday pulled out of commercial discussions with Canadian officials, the Ontario premier said he would take down the advert.

The Province Position

Doug Ford the Premier declared on Friday that he would pause his province's anti-tariff advertisement campaign in the America, informing journalists that he chose after talks with PM Mark Carney "in order that trade negotiations can restart".

He noted it would continue to air on Saturday and Sunday, including games for the baseball championship, which features the Blue Jays facing the Dodgers.

Commercial Context

The Canadian nation is the only G7 nation that has not secured a arrangement with the US since Trump started trying to charge significant tariffs on items from primary commercial allies.

The America has previously applied a 35% duty on each Canada's items - though the majority are exempt under an present commercial pact. It has also slapped targeted taxes on Canada's goods, featuring a 50% levy on steel and aluminum and 25% on cars.

In his message, posted while he was flying to Southeast Asia, Donald Trump seemed to say he was imposing an additional 10% to the existing tariffs.

Three-quarters of Canada's exported goods are sent to the US, and Ontario is home to the bulk of Canadian vehicle industry.

Reagan Ad Details

The advertisement, which was funded by the Ontario authorities, cites former US President Reagan, a conservative icon and figure of conservative values, stating import taxes "harm every American".

The commercial uses clips from a 1987-era national radio address that centered on foreign trade.

The Foundation, which is responsible for maintaining the ex-president's memory, had criticised the advertisement for using "carefully chosen" sound and footage and claimed it falsified Reagan's speech. It also said the Ontario government had not requested authorization to use it.

Ongoing Disputes

In his message on his platform on the weekend, the President claimed that the advertisement should have been taken down before.

"The Commercial was to be pulled RIGHT AWAY, but they let it run recently during the World Series, realizing that it was a DECEPTION," he posted, while en route to Southeast Asia.

Ford had previously pledged to broadcast the Reagan advert in each Republican area in the America.

The two Donald Trump and Mark Carney will be attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in the Malaysian nation, but Trump told journalists accompanying him on the presidential plane that he does not have any "intention" of meeting with his Canadian PM during the trip.

In his update, the President also accused Canadian officials of attempting to manipulate an future US Supreme Court case which could halt his whole import duty program.

The lawsuit, to be considered by the highest US court soon, will decide whether the import taxes are constitutional.

On Thursday, Donald Trump further criticized, claiming that the advertisement was created to "tamper" with "the most significant legal case"

MLB Finals Association

The advertisement is not the only way that the province – base of the Toronto team – is using the MLB finals as a opportunity to condemn Trump's tariffs.

In a recording posted on Friday, Doug Ford and Governor Gavin Newsom playfully made bets about which side would triumph the championship.

Each official frequently joked about duties in the video, with the Premier promising to send Gavin Newsom a container of maple syrup if the LA Dodgers triumph.

"The import tax might charge me a few extra bucks at the border these days, but it'll be worth it," he stated.

In reply, Governor Newsom requested Ford to restart allowing American-produced beverages to be available in province beverage outlets, and pledged to provide "the state's championship-worthy vino" if the Blue Jays triumph.

They ended their exchange each stating: "To a fantastic MLB finals, and a duty-free friendship between the region and the state."
