Trump's Actions Pose a Threat to Our Social Fabric.

His internal and external policies – from the attempted coup five years ago to recent actions and statements – undermine both domestic and international jurisprudence. However, the issue goes deeper.

These actions endanger the core idea of civilization itself.

A ethical foundation of civilized society is to forestall the dominant from harming and taking advantage of the weaker. Otherwise, we would be trapped in a state of nature where might makes right could survive.

This principle is embedded of the nation's founding texts. It is equally the heart of the postwar international order supported by the America, which stresses multilateralism, democracy, fundamental freedoms, and the legal authority.

Yet, it is a delicate ideal, often broken by those who would exploit their authority. Upholding it necessitates that the those in charge have the moral fortitude to refrain from seeking temporary advantages, and that the rest of us ensure they answer for their actions should they falter.

Unfettered might is not right. It leads to uncertainty, disruption, and hostilities.

Each instance people or corporations or countries that are wealthier and stronger attack and exploit those that are less so, the structure of civilization weakens. Should such behavior are not contained, the fabric unravels. Allowing it to persist, the world can plunge into chaos and war. History provides ample precedent.

We now inhabit a society and world grown vastly more unequal. Authority and resources are more concentrated than ever before. This invites the privileged to take advantage of the less fortunate because they act with a sense of above the law.

The fortunes of a small group of tycoons is almost beyond comprehension. The power of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors extends over much of the globe. AI is could centralize wealth and power to a greater degree. The offensive capability of the leading countries is unprecedented in recorded history.

Empowered by a compliant faction and an accommodating supreme court, the highest office has been transformed into the most dominant and unchecked instrument of state power in recent memory.

Consider this confluence and you perceive the looming crisis.

A direct line ties past lawless actions to present-day menaces. Both were founded upon the hubris of absolute power.

You see parallel dynamics in the actions of other powers: in wars of aggression, in coercive diplomacy, and in the global depredation by industrial titans.

But, strength without restraint does not establish right. It produces instability, upended order, and armed conflict.

History shows that frameworks designed to check the powerful also safeguard them. Absent these limits, their endless appetite for more power and wealth ultimately lead to their downfall – and with them their corporations, nations, or empires. And risk global conflict.

This blatant contempt for legal order will haunt America and the global community – and the very idea of civilization – for a long time.
